Beaufort, SC; Bakersfield, CA; Waco, TX; Del Rio, TX; Hodgenville, KY; Meade
County, KY. David was born on December 29, 1937 to Rev. David T. Green Sr. and
Iva Whitis Green
(third
of six children). David served in the U.S.M.C. and then went on to a long career
as a painting contractor throughout the U.S. In 1958, David met and married the
love of his life, Ruth Marshall, and
together they raised 5 children. In 1990 David received a heart transplant at
U.C.L.A. and enjoyed an additional 18 years of good health before passing away
August 23, 2008 in Bakersfield, CA, from complications unrelated to the
transplant. The love he had for his family was second only to the love he had
for God. David was an amazing husband, Dad, and Papa. He was happiest when
surrounded by family. He was always at the center of any gathering, telling
stories, playing games, or rocking a grandbaby.
David was also an avid checker
player winning the California State Championship and a Lifetime American Checker
Federation member. Survivors include his wife Ruth, his Children Tammy Briggs
(Sydney), David III (Debbie), Mark (Stephanie), Davina Green-Stratton (Bill);
and Jennifer Pardue (Brad); 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Awaiting
him in Heaven were his parents, his brother Donald, and sister, Yvonne.
